Higher toll on Austrian roads for vehicles with gross weight over 3.5t

4 January 2012 - From 1st January 2012, the road tolls for vehicles with gross weight over 3.5t circulating on Austrian highways will be increased. The Austrian Official Journal, published on 12th December 2011, shows the new rates for commercial vehicles in transit on the main roads in the country. Tolls have been increased up to 10% in the main alpine route. The number of classes has been increased from three to four. A new category, for vehicles with Euro 6 engines ( included in the Euro 5 and EEV class until 2010), has been introduced.
These are the new classes (from lower to higher toll):

• A. Euro 6;
• B. EEV(EnhancedEnvironmentally Friendly Vehicle);
• C. Euro 4and Euro 5;
• D. From Euro 0 to Euro3.3

Each category is divided according to the number of axles per vehicle. Moreover, some routes have specific tolls, which are not calculated on the mileage, but on the entire road section.
